ABOUT THIS PROJECT
For this project we were asked to install an inset multifuel stove into customer’s existing fire surround. The difference in safety regulations between gas and solid fuel fires meant that the the existing fireplace needed to be modified. Luckily the distances between the stove and the mantel met the recommended distances to combustibles but the hearth was not suitable and for aesthetics the customer chose to match the hearth and back panel. Both the hearth and back panel were replaced with honed granite equivalents, the most practical material for a regularly used real fire. The heath was made to measure to match the size of the old one as the customer didn’t want to replace the flooring. Both granite pieces were sectioned and slabbed to reduce the possibility of them cracking due to the heat emitted from the stove.
